Curriculum

BOS Requirements

Strathfield Girls High School follows the curriculum requirements laid down by the Board of Studies in New South Wales.

Year 7 to 10 are the compulsory years of secondary schooling leading to the award of the School Certificate at the completion of Year 10.

Year 7 and Year 8

All Year 7 and 8 students study English, Mathematics, Science, History, Geography, PD/Health/PE, Visual Arts, Music, Design and Technology and languages.  In both Years 7 and 8, all students will also study Living Skills and participate in sport which is a mandatory component of the Years 7 – 10 curriculum.

Year 9 and Year 10

Year 9 allows students to start to specialise in subjects which are of particular interest to them.  A wide range of electives is available for students to choose for Years 9 and 10.  Students choose three elective subjects for  study during Years 9 and 10.  The core subjects English, Mathematics, Science, Australian History and Geography, including Civics and Citizenship and PD/Health/PE continue for all students.  In addition, all students in  both Years 9 and 10, will also study Living Skills and participate in sport.

Year 11 and 12

The post compulsory years lead to the award of the Higher School Certificate.  Students usually complete the Higher School Certificate over two years but flexible study patterns are available allowing students up to five years to complete the Higher School Certificate.  For this reason the senior school courses are called Preliminary courses and HSC courses rather than Year 11 and Year 12 courses.
